New York Amazon Warehouse Injury Leads to $4 Million Settlement

Amazon warehouses power the American economy, but often at the cost of New York workers. Over the past few years, a number of worrying reports have emerged from Amazon warehouses across the nation. These reports speak of safety violations, repetitive strain injuries, unlawful employment practices, and generally poor working conditions. A recent settlement provides some hope for injured Amazon workers in New York and their families.

Injured Amazon Warehouse Worker Win $4 Million Settlement in New York

A case involving an injured Amazon worker in New York continues to make headlines. The story began in 2018, when the worker in question was attempting to remove asbestos from the roof of a new Amazon warehouse. The structure in question was run-down and derelict, but Amazon planned to renovate it and transform it into a new facility. Although this might have seemed like a profitable plan, it obviously put numerous workers in danger.

A demolition contractor stepped in and helped in this renovation process. However, it was later revealed that this contractor maintained falsified entries in his logbooks. Among other things, this contractor falsely stated that a certified, licensed safety supervisor was present at the site during the renovation process. In reality, no supervisor was present on the fateful day that a worker fell straight through the roof.

It later became clear that this imaginary safety supervisor was absent in the days leading up to the accident and in the following days. It seems that even after a worker fell through a warehouse roof and suffered serious injuries, the contractor did not feel that it was necessary to follow construction laws and provide workers with a safety monitor. There was even a suggestion that the contractor forged the signature of a safety supervisor.

The injured worker fell through a hole that suddenly caved in beneath his feet. He fell about 25 feet directly onto a concrete floor and struck his head. Although he survived, he was placed in a medically induced coma and never recovered from this traumatic brain injury.

At the end of the day, the contractors agreed to hand over a settlement of $4 million to settle litigation over the worker’s injury. The exact condition of the worker is not clear, but it seems as though he remains in a medically-induced coma. Hopefully, the settlement will allow his surviving family members to cover expenses associated with a lifetime of lost income.
